The Hisani therapy centre was founded in 2011 by Charlotte Collins, a Rogerian Therapist and Acupuncturist to provide support for children, adolescents and adults alike.

Hisani, meaning kindness in Swahili, is set on fifty acres of land where our horses can gaze over the beautiful Lolldaiga hills of Laikipia, Kenya.

Nestled by the Timau river, Hisani offers a peaceful and safe place to explore and heal a variety of social and emotional challenges.

Just thirty minutes outside of Nanyuki, It is a beautiful person and animal centred family home where we offer clients the opportunity of spending time with our horses and other animals. Hisani can host up to three families at a time, or more if we camp out in our wild semi arid grounds. We  also have a large tended garden filled with indigenous plants and flowers. Here you’ll find lots of nooks and crannies for quiet time alone or intimate social connections.

Our horses graze on the property as one large herd and they have as much freedom as they like. We love living in amongst our menagerie, they are part of the family and we share with each other a positive and uplifting energy.

In our sanctuary we provide a life time of care to many horse-residents, the majority of whom are unlikely to be re-homed due to their challenging veterinary needs, sympathetic handling requirements or behavioural difficulties. Each one has a fascinating backstory, helping to explain their current difficulties which make them unsuitable for riding, jumping or sports such as polo.

hisani also has easy access onto Lolldaiga Hills Ranch, a discreet wildlife paradise for spectacular views and game drives.

Our horses are integrated as a partner in the therapeutic process. Horses in therapy sessions bear witness to whatever is presented to them and they respond, often choosing to engage in ways that are intuitively helpful.  They give us feedback through body language, mirroring what they understand about clients deepest feelings and intentions.

We are also delighted to be able to host guest workshops. Come and use the Hisani centre for your workshop or retreat and we can provide the safe space, tasty food and comfy accommodation for all your clients. All you have to do is focus on your role as workshop leader and we will look after everything else.
